Results of long-term human growth hormone therapy for pituitary dwarfism.

چکیده
It has been generally recognized that human growth hormone (HGH) has the effect to facilitate growth in cases of pituitary dwarfism. As of April 1970, however, there are only 33 reported cases in the world in which HGH has been administered for more than two years (Soyka et al., 1970). We have treated 14 cases of pituitary dwarfism with HGH, and observed initial increases in growth rate in all cases. In two of the cases the therapy became practically ineffective after several months, whereas in the other twelve it remained effective for more than one year. Some of these cases were previously reported (Shizume, 1968 1969). The present paper reports the results on five of the above-mentioned twelve cases in which HGH therapy has been continued for more than three years.

Effects of Thyroid Hormone (T4, T3 ), Bromocriptine And Triac on Inappropriate TSH Hypersecretion
Inappropriate TSH hypersecretion was diagnosed in a 34 years old woman. Earlier she had been treated by ablative therapy for hyperthyroidism. The present diagnosis was based on elevated basal serum TSH levels despite elevated serum free thyroid hormone level. Her TSH responses to TRH (peak value 240 mu/I) was high. Her albumin and prealbumin levels were normal. The serum TBG level, alpha subuni...

Serum somatomedin (SM) activity by bioassay was measured in 46 idiopathic pituitary dwarfs before and during long-term hGH treatment. The mean (+/- SD) pretreatment SM activity was 0.38 +/- 0.17 U/ml. The mean (+/- SD) pretreatment annual growth rate was 3.4 +/- 1.0 cm/year. None of the patients had a SM activity within the normal range of age-matched controls. The mean SM activity 1 day post G...

متن کاملLong term effects of human growth hormone on 1,959 patients with pituitary dwarfism throughout Japan.
The results of 6 months to 8 years of treatment of pituitary dwarfism in 1,959 patients in Japan were summarized. The data were based on the reports of the physicians treating the patients. Among the patients, 1,720 cases suffered from idiopathic pituitary dwarfism, 227 cases from secondary pituitary dwarfism, and 12 cases from unknown causes. Their initial age ranged from 9 months to 36 years ...
متن کاملAcute metabolic response to human growth hormone in different types of dwarfism.
The effectiveness of human growth hormone (H.G.H.) in man is now well established from both the acute metabolic response (Beck et al., 1958 ; Ikkos et al., 1959 ; Medical Research Council, 1959) and the stimulation of growth after long-term therapy (Raben, 1962). In this paper we report the results of studies of the acute metabolic response to injected H.G.H. in different types of dwarfism and,...
